Sai Lup, the most photogenic of my puppies, haha! This one was also fun to make as I was contemplating whether to layer it or just paint the markings. In the end, I decided to layer it.
I think this may be a good design to use colored clay already, but of course I haven’t tried it and haven’t had the chance to test with colored clay yet.
I will also need to come back to this one in the future.
I did think long and hard about Menina’s design. She was a Dachshund, so I pondered about making it a longer. Then I contemplated to put her ears on the sides, bu then decided to put them in the front.
I should think up of more design concept for different types of dogs.
The slight bubbles was because of the practice clay, probably got mixed up with other-temperature based clay so this happened.
Definitely a piece that I intend to come back to again in the future.
I actually started playing around with ceramics on a wheel throwing workshop some time in 2022, or maybe it was 2021. It was fun while the workshop lasted, but we weren’t given a lot of guidance on how to fix small errors, just being told to “do it over”.
After that, a new beginner’s course started in another workshop/institution, so I joined that, and had better instruction. It started with the basics such as hand-molding, slabs, curls, and finally the wheel again.
After this first course, I decided to join the first course again together with some friends who are already pretty good with their skill set, as I knew I wasn’t still good on a few skills. I took it as a chance to practice and practice.
It was on this second round of beginner’s course that when the Master said we were going into slabs, the group was supposed to make boxes. But since I had already made boxes, I decided to make an open box, which then gave me the idea to make a planter (since I also got into plants around that time), and then looking at my Frenchie’s face, I thought “I could make a doggie planter!”
And this is how my doggie planters came to be. These prototypes have a lot of space for improvement, so I will come back and re-make them
Thus, I now decide to start this blog as my personal ceramics journey and to record the pieces I have done. Hope you enjoy!
